Black Friday – 27th November 2020 – is now the busiest shopping day of the year, but we believe Green is the new Black and Green Friday is here!
We are joining the Green Friday movement, in asking shoppers to think before they spend. Instead of automatically heading to giant corporations for your Christmas gift shopping, take a look around you and find the little gems, the small businesses, trying to make a positive change with eco-friendly and sustainable goods. They need your support more than ever this year.
To do our bit, at Doris & Dude this year we’ll be donating one pair of our lush bamboo and organic cotton socks to the Newquay Drop In and Share Centre for every two pairs purchased in a single transaction over the Green Friday period (13th November – 4th December). DISC Newquay is a local charity that offers food, clothing and other support to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and we look forward to being able to help them serve our community.
You can also rest easy knowing that your Doris & Dude gifts are kind to the planet as well as your feet. Made with bamboo, organic cotton and recycled polyester, our socks (as well as being super lush and comfy) are a sustainable choice that won’t cost the Earth. With a huge range of fun designs for all the family you are sure to find a pair of socks to make you smile!
Check out our materials blogs to find out why the ingredients of our super soft sock formula are so important to us:
Many of you may be feeling like your lives at the moment are
unrecognisable from the simple day-to-day that we all existed in a month ago.
Mini-dudes off school, empty supermarket shelves, and
friends and loved ones in isolation. People are scared, people are working
hard, and people are doing their best.
It got us to wondering what we could do. Now let’s not kid
ourselves, socks are not essential items in these times, we know that. But a
little gift that says thank you, that shows that you have been appreciated, can
truly lift the spirits. Especially one that comes in bright colours and
environmentally friendly materials.
So, to say thank you in our own little way, for every pair of socks that is bought through our website from now until the end of April, we will give a pair to a someone who has worked their socks off at our local hospital – the Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske.
This Spring we at Doris & Dude would like to introduce you to a friend of ours – Beeutiful. We have teamed up with Beeutiful to bring you a fantastic competition with a prize bundle worth £60!
Beeutiful share our values on caring for our environment, getting outdoors to enjoy it, and also the joys and challenges of being a small business. We look forward to getting to know them over the next three months and showing you some of the lovely affordable skincare products they have to offer.
Carly began beekeeping as a hobby, and from that a little idea buzzed into her head, which slowly and steadily grew into Beeutiful – a company dedicated to creating natural beeswax and honey products, which has now won numerous industry awards, including a prestigious Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday Award in 2017.
Beeutiful products are suitable for sensitive skin, being free from chemicals – in fact their philosophy goes “if you can’t eat it why put it on your skin”, which we love! So if you want lip balms, moisturisers, baby products or many more lovely things that are vegetarian, kind to nature and sustainable then head over to the Beeutiful webshop and treat yourself!
Inspired by Carly’s dedication to her bees and the crucial role these tiny creatures play in sustaining life on our beautiful planet, Doris & Dude will be donating 50p per pair of bee design socks until the end of May to the British Bee Keeping Association’s new schools learning Apiary. This fantastic project aims to teach different groups (but particularly school children) about the importance of bees, issues around food security and the fragility of our environment.
We hope you agree it’s a worthy cause, so grab yourself a pair of funky Doris & Dude bamboo bee socks now before they bee-come sold out (we will try harder on our bee puns next time we promise!).
